Manager, Finance

Position Description


Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Manager will lead the monthly financial statement preparation, variance analysis, business unit reporting, forecasting update, and ad hoc analysis as requested by Senior Management. The Manager, Finance will also assist with internal and external audits, technical accounting research and analysis, and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting. The Manager, Finance will support junior team members through training and mentorship.


  • Oversee the preparation of financial reporting on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Assistance with preparation of the quarterly MD&A and Board presentations.
  • Completion of variance analysis from the budget and financial targets, report on issues and implement corrective measures.
  • Develop and manage analytical tools and processes to improve the quality and transparency of financial results and forecasts and to facilitate ad hoc reporting.
  • Responsible for maintenance of procedure manuals for accounting and reporting functions.
  • Identify and implement areas for continuous improvements in financial and management reporting.
  • Track business unit information via the generation of Business Unit Statements and dashboards.
  • Assist with internal audits and external financial statement audit; responsible for the generation of financial statements to be presented to auditors and shareholders.

  • Perform accounting policy analysis and research.
  • Update policies to be compliant with new accounting pronouncements and provide accounting policy guidance to users throughout the Company.
  • Stay current with changes in IFRS and update accounting policies to ensure that the policies continue to be in accordance with IFRS.
  • Review the accounting treatment and impacts of new products and transactions.
  • Complete accounting analysis for investment in internal infrastructure and other policy requirements, working with consultants to ensure appropriate accounting treatment is in place prior to audit analysis.
  • Provide leadership, training, coaching and development opportunities to each member of the Finance team by explaining new accounting treatment, changes in accounting policies etc.
  • Recommend, implement and maintain process improvements within the Finance department, as well as, in other departments as identified and required.

  • Ad Hoc Strategic Analysis as required by Senior Management.
  • Assist with the generation of the Business Plan and ensuring consistency with the Budget Model.
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly financial forecasts.
  • Support project analysis via the generation and assistance in maintenance of Project Finance Budget to Actual Tracking and reporting.

Qualifications Required

  • CPA designation.
  • University graduate, business/accounting specialization.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a Professional Services office with Financial Institution experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows/MS Office Applications.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills – experience manipulating and arranging large data sets using Pivot tables, Vlookup, and formulas.
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills including ability to conduct quantitative analysis.
  • Attention to detail while being able to step back to consider the impacts on the consolidated entity.
  • Aptitude to work with large amounts of data and to manipulate, arrange and manage it effectively.
  • Ability to recognize issues and take initiative to work on finding an effective solution.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to business issues and drive results.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
