Compliance Analyst

Position Description


Reporting to the Director, Compliance, the Compliance Analyst will assist in the implementation and maintenance of Community Trust Company’s (“CTC”) compliance program to ensure that CTC continues to be in compliance with Regulatory Compliance Management Guideline (OSFI E-13) requirements and prescribed practices. The incumbent will assist the Compliance Department in the oversight of regulatory compliance enterprise-wide through the application of various second line of defense activities such as risk identification, assessment, independent control testing, monitoring and reporting. The Compliance Analyst will also be responsible for tracking and ensuring corporate compliance with regulatory requirements from various agencies such as OSFI, FINTRAC, CDIC, FCAC and Privacy Commissioners.

  • Provide operational and analytical support to the Compliance Department in the area of regulatory compliance;
  • Assist in performing second line of defense functions pursuant to OSFI Guideline E-13 requirements that include ongoing testing of controls across business and support units; risk assessments, control monitoring and reporting activities enterprise-wide;
  • Perform ongoing maintenance and monitoring of CTC’s compliance management system that includes updating regulatory inventory, control and risk documentation, risk assessment ratings, testing results and action plans;
  • Responsible for preparing routine and ad-hoc board and management reports by coordinating with contributors and risk owners on necessary inputs;
  • Conduct research and perform data aggregation support of the Compliance Department in relation to various internal and external requirements;
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders as a subject matter expert for policy, guidance and directive interpretations, communicating process changes and recommendations to business units in a timely manner;
  • Assist in maintaining and implementing the employee training/orientation program for various mandatory courses such as on AML, Privacy and Consumer Protection;
  • Maintain relevant compliance metrics and recommend action for trends and risks identified through monitoring;
  • Update and maintain policies, procedures and operational manuals in support of the day-to-day requirements of the Business Units, including job aids, forms and templates.
  • Assist in gathering documents for regulators, auditors and internal stakeholders during examinations and on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Provide assistance when required in other areas within the Compliance team including AML and Privacy.

Qualifications Required

  • Post-Secondary Education in Business or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in financial services in at least two of the following areas: Regulatory Compliance, Risk Management, Internal Audit in a progressive role. Exposure to operating in a regulatory environment.
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of financial services regulatory environment, including all applicable laws and regulations. Ability to interpret complex regulations and requirements and translate into internal policies.
  • Intermediate or high-level proficiency in Microsoft Office (mainly Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) and compliance software such as Ethidex.
  • Strong knowledge of business processes and control structures. Ability to analyze critical details of business issues and work flow as basis for suggesting areas for improvement.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, organize, document and present large volumes of information in a succinct and organized manner.
  • Experience in writing management, board and audit reports.
  • Ability to make decisions independently, make process recommendations, handle simultaneous, complex projects and deadlines.
