Commercial Mortgage Officer

Position Description

MANDATE:

The Commercial Mortgage Officer is responsible for supporting the Commercial Underwriting team in underwriting new loans, and renewing and reviewing the existing mortgage portfolio with a view to improving deal flow through the underwriting, funding, and post funding operations.

  • ACCOUNTABILITIES:
    Aid the collection of pertinent underwriting documentation in relation to new loan applications and provide support services to Underwriters.
  • Collaborate with Mortgage Servicing to ensure the delivery of updated borrower and property materials to facilitate the timely completion of Renewals and Annual Reviews while ensuring each status is documented and recorded in CTC’s internal mortgage tracking system.
  • Assist Underwriting staff with the completion of Renewals and Annual Review Presentations as necessitated.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups with mortgage brokers and clients to collect and confirm adequate documentation is delivered to satisfy all conditions required for funding or loan renewal.
  • Work in collaboration with the Underwriting, Funding and Servicing teams to ensure successful fundings, renewals, annual reviews and post funding process are being maintained.
  • Responsible for initial loan inputting into CTC’s internal mortgage tracking system, so as to accurately reflect mortgage terms and conditions and facilitate funding process.
  • Regularly update CTC’s internal mortgage tracking system, to ensure loan statuses are accurately recorded and communicated to other CTC departments as new loan transactions move through the funding process.
  • Responsible for general department reporting and loan tracking, including work in progress, maturities, reviews, monitored loans, undertaking and so forth, with a view to facilitating active and timely management of the overall mortgage portfolio.
  • Upload loan presentations and supporting documentation to CTC’s internal on-line meeting board for the purposes of credit review and discussion.
  • Record meeting minutes for Credit Committee Meetings and other internal meetings as may be required.
  • Ensure all loan applications adhere to internal policies with respect to third party report service providers.
  • Ensure all loans presentations are appropriately executed and approved prior to funding or renewal.
  • Respond to both internal and external inquiries in a timely manner to meet service standards and foster positive relationships.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of the company’s business practices, organizational structure and general policies and procedures to adhere to compliance and operational risk controls.
  • Collaborate with Commercial Funding & AML Department to pro-actively identify actual and potential violations of AML regulatory requirements, internal policies and procedures or other AML/ATF risk situations at an early stage. Conducts appropriate inquiries and investigations in relation to any such situation and ensures that corrective actions and/or risk mitigation actions are implemented in a timely manner or escalated appropriately.

Qualifications Required

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Minimum of 1-2 years related experience preferred
  • Post-Secondary Education preferred
  • Understanding of AML procedures with an emphasis on “Know Your Client” rules.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills
  • A general understanding of the characteristics, attributes and risk factors associated with various loan types.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (including Word, Excel and Power Point)
  • Solid written and verbal business communication skills.
  • Basic analytical skills and a keen eye for detail.
