Business Systems Analyst

Position Description


The Business Systems Analyst (BSA) is responsible for communicating with multiple stakeholders to elicit, define, analyze and document requirements for cutting-edge application developments and enhancements to the existing ones. This role is responsible for managing, authoring and updating various BA/BSA artifacts. You will learn, adopt and practice agile methodologies for Community Trust products and enhancements, as required.


  • Demonstrate ability to synthesize stakeholder requirements so the end-product is easy to use, easy to understand, easy to get service and easy to sell.
  • Evolve to deliver products, enhancements and projects using either agile or traditional methodologies as deemed appropriate
  • Learn and participate in agile Scrum teams in the role of BA, Scrum Master, Team Member, as and when needed
  • Assist agile team members (i.e., designer, developer, tester etc.) through design, coding, testing, deployment, maintenance, and support client initiatives phases
  • Conduct interviews with subject matter experts (SME), management and end-users to elicit, define, analyze and document requirements for new products, projects and their enhancements
  • Identify options for potential solutions and assess them for client, technology and business suitability
  • Work with Product Managers, Business Owners, Compliance, Legal, Marketing, UX, Designers, Developers, EA, Info Security, Network, Database, QA etc. teams to ensure comprehension and feasibility of requirements
  • Build and maintain a strong understanding of organization’s new and existing:
    • Business and technology service offerings
    • Relationships and services with vendors
    • Business models and flows of data in the business
  • Produce or assist with of a variety of business/systems analysis artifacts including:
    • Product backlog / user stories and epics
    • Business case / proposal
    • Requirements documents (i.e., BRD, SRD, MRD)
    • Use case document
    • Data models; current/future state flow diagrams
    • Presentations for requirement walkthroughs
    • Ability to manage vendor deliverables associated with BSA activities
  • Develop working knowledge of the system (application) or product to be tested from the perspective of the target audience (i.e., client, other user roles etc.)
  • Assist with testing, identify defects when reporting deficiencies in the system/application being tested
  • Assist with the creation of design mockups and prototypes for the purpose of validating accuracy of requirements
  • Assist QA and end-users with verifying application functionality; and that application functionality adheres to requirements
  • Exhibit confidence and an extensive knowledge of emerging industry practices when solving business problems.

Qualifications Required

  • University degree or equivalent in computer science, IT or business disciplines (i.e., Accounting, Finance, Economics etc.)
  • Experience in the lending industry and knowledge of all types of lending products (i.e., secured/unsecured lending etc.)
  • Exceptional skills in facilitating meetings, documentation, conducting interviews to elicit and write complete and detailed requirements.
  • Solid understanding of business, data, process, and object-oriented analysis and modeling techniques
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, documentation, conflict resolution and expectation/relationship management skills
  • Ability to understand company-wide project initiatives, see cross-functional opportunities, and comprehend overall company business directives
  • Commitment to requirements management practices with ability to control project scope creep and mitigate project risks and constraints
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of classic, current and emerging technologies related to lending ecosystem
  • Working knowledge of application programming, database and system design
  • Minimum of 7 years of information technology and BSA experience in the financial/lending systems/solutions development area
  • At least 3-5 years of direct work experience with lending systems (i.e., SIT etc.)
  • Experience with all facets of lending business/operations flows
  • Expert data mapping, modeling and analysis skills and familiarity with MS Visio
  • Knowledge of SDLC, traditional vs. agile delivery, project management, development, coding, testing (QA) methodologies
  • Knowledge of writing/understanding/interpreting API documentation
  • CSPO (Certified Scrum Product Owner), CSM (Certified Scrum Master) or other relevant business analysis certification an asset
